Overview

ShiftX is an upcoming smart ring brand in India focused on delivering deeper, more intuitive awareness about the human body. Rather than simply displaying metrics, ShiftX aims to reveal insights users do not consciously notice such as how they truly sleep, how their heart is coping with stress, or how their overall mind body state evolves through the day.

The goal was to create a modern, futuristic, cosmos inspired mobile app experience that feels like stepping into a personalized wellness universe. The experience needed to be science backed, brand differentiated, and visually unique in the Indian wearables market.

As Lead Designer, I collaborated with two designers and the founding team across a structured design sprint and iterative product design cycles to establish the core product direction and execute the full app experience.

Starting with a Design Sprint

To set the foundation, I led a modified version of the Jake Knapp Design Sprint Workshop, adapting several stages to suit the founders’ objective: to define differentiating features in an increasingly saturated smart ring market.

Sprint Objectives

  1. Understand competitors and gaps in the market.

  2. Identify unique value propositions.

  3. Define a brand defining feature set.

  4. Align founders, designers, and engineering on a clear product north star.

Outcomes of the Sprint

  1. A feature direction centered around holistic wellbeing (mind, body, and soul) later named X Score.

  2. A visual direction rooted in cosmic, sci fi, and spatial design aesthetics that signifies expanding human awareness.

  3. Features that drive user engagement and unlock new monetization opportunities

With these outcomes validated internally, we transitioned into detailed design.

The Core Features

X Score: The Cosmic Core

A proprietary wellness system unique to ShiftX.
The X Score brings together three core forces. Mind, Body, and Soul.
Each contributes dynamically to a cumulative score that represents a user's complete wellbeing. We explored multiple iterations before arriving at a planetary orbit system that intuitively communicates balance, motion, and alignment across the dimensions.
The X Score became the centerpiece of the app and core brand differentiator.

Heart Rate

A complete cardiovascular health layer that goes beyond beats per minute.

  • Heart Rate insights

  • HRV (Heart Rate Variability)

  • Cardiovascular Age

  • Daily, weekly and monthly trends

High clarity graphs paired with written insights make the data easy to understand and actionable.

Activity

Tracks everything from steps to detailed session level metrics.

  • Activity tracking and sessions

  • Activity log with key metrics

  • Route maps with pace and movement indicators

Bold card layouts paired with kinetic visuals bring motion, pace, and progress to life.

Women’s Health

A dedicated system designed with sensitivity and clarity.

  • Period logging

  • Cycle predictions

  • Breast health reminders

  • Pregnancy insights

The experience is designed to feel empathetic, supportive, and aligned with the core brand ethos.

Family Hub

A unique market differentiating feature.
This feature allows users to link family members’ accounts, view their vitals, monitor safety through location insights, and receive alerts when needed. It was designed as a scalable module, anticipating extended use cases across health emergencies and ongoing wellbeing monitoring.

Meditation

Designed to support four key needs relax, sleep, focus, and movement, this feature includes guided meditation sessions and ambient cosmic soundscapes. Fluid motion and soft gradients create a calm, meditative ambience throughout the experience.

Design Outcome

The project delivered several clear insights that strengthened both the product direction and user experience.

  • The workshop served as an eye opener for the entire team and surfaced engagement focused ideas such as Family Hub and Groups.

  • In a crowded smart ring market, strong visual differentiation emerged as a key factor for standing out.

  • Many users struggle to interpret raw data and graphs, so adding clear textual insights significantly improved usability and overall understanding.

These outcomes shaped a more meaningful, intuitive, and competitive product foundation for ShiftX.
